- Titles: None
- “The Terminator” (also known as the T-800, T-850 or T-101) refers to a number of fictional characters portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger – a cyborg, initially portrayed as a programmable assassin and military infiltration unit. “The Terminator” character first appeared as the titular antagonist in The Terminator, a 1984 film directed and co-written by James Cameron, and its sequels. The first film in the series features only one cyborg: the one portrayed by Schwarzenegger, although a second Terminator played by Franco Columbu is shown in a future flashback scene. In the first two sequels, Schwarzenegger’s Terminator is pitted against other Terminators; it appears briefly in the third sequel as a CGI model. In the sequels, Terminator 2: Judgment Day andTerminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Schwarzenegger reprises the role, but with a twist: Schwarzenegger is the hero instead of the villain playing a different but visually identical Terminator in each of the three films. Within the Terminatoruniverse created by Cameron, Terminators of the same “model” share identical characteristics. In the production of the films, this has allowed multiple Terminators to be portrayed by Schwarzenegger. In the context of the stories, this plot device provides a certain continuity for the human characters, by exploiting their emotional familiarity with a particular “human” visage.

For your private detective does not or did not ten years ago when he was my colleague want to be an erudite solver of riddles in the Sherlock Holmes manner; he wants to be a hard and shifty fellow, able to take care of himself in any situation, able to get the best of anybody he comes in contact with, whether criminal, innocent by-stander or client.” Unlike Hammett’s most frequently used character, the unnamed “Continental Op,” Spade works for himself, does not always get along with the police, and appears to have some appeal for the opposite sex.

- “The man with no name” is a mysterious man who travels the country on his mule. He wears a signature poncho and hat, always smokes cigars, and always carries a .45 with a snake on the handle. The “Man With No Name”, as personified by Eastwood, embodies the archetypical characteristics of the American movie cowboy — toughness, exceptional physical strength or size, independence, and skill with a gun — but departed from the original archetype due to his moral ambiguity. Unlike the traditional cowboy, exemplified by actors John Wayne, Alan Ladd, and Randolph Scott, the Man with No Name will fight dirty and shoot first, if required by his own self-defined sense of justice. Although he tends to look for ways to benefit himself, he has, in a few cases, aided others if he feels an obligation to, such as freeing a couple held captive in A Fistful of Dollars and comforting a dying soldier after the bridge explosion in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

- Zorro first appeared in “The Curse of Capistrano”, a short story by Johnston McCulley published in the magazine All Story Weekly on August 19, 1919. The story caught the attention of Douglas Fairbanks, who soon brought the swashbuckling hero to the silver screen inThe Mark of Zorro. The resounding popularity of the film prompted McCulley to publish 65 more stories featuring Zorro, which have since inspired countless film, television and literary adaptations throughout the world. The character of Zorro is most notable for pioneering the use of disguise and dual identity to fight crime and injustice, though many argue that McCulley probably borrowed these ideas from The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy or The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas père. It can be said that any superhero who uses a cape, mask or secret identity is borrowing elements from Zorro mythology, since Bob Kane has credited Zorro as the prototype for the character of Batman, which in turn influenced many superhero characters that followed.

- The Wicked Witch of The West is the terrifying nemesis of Dorothy and all the residents of Oz in the “The Wizard of Oz,” a children’s story by American author L. Frank Baum. Onscreen the most memorable portrayal has been that of beloved character actress Margaret Hamilton in the spectacular 1939 MGM technicolor musical, which starred Judy Garland as Dorothy. In the 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz, Margaret Hamilton plays the Wicked Witch of the West as a stooped, green-skinned witch dressed in a long black dress with a black pointed hat. This representation of the Wicked Witch has become a standard for what witches look like and an archetype for human wickedness. While this relationship is not mentioned in Baum’s books, in the movie, the Witch is the sister of the Wicked Witch of the East. In fact, she appears in the film much earlier on than in Baum’s original novel, demanding the Munchkins reveal who killed her sister, not long after Dorothy‘s arrival in Oz. Therefore, the Witch’s role is made much more prominent than in the novel, as she seeks revenge against Dorothy for destroying her sister, even though it was an “accident”. She is more menacing than her literary counterpart, making Dorothy too afraid to ever lose her temper with the witch, unlike Baum’s original depiction. The Golden Cap is not mentioned, but the witch does hold what could be considered the cap, after the poppies fail to work. She is killed when Dorothy throws the water when she lights a fire to threaten the Scarecrow. The character ranks No. 4 in the American Film Institute‘s list of the 50 Best Movie Villains of All Time, making her the highest ranking female villain, as well as placing 90th on Empire’s 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time.

- Robby the Robot is a fictional character who has made a number of appearances in science fiction movies and television programs after his first appearance in the 1956 MGM science fiction film Forbidden Planet. Robby the Robot is a 7-foot (2.1 m) tall fictional robot originally created in the mid-1950s by MGM’s prop department; the robot quickly became a science fiction icon in the decades that followed. In Forbidden Planet, Robby exhibited artificial intelligence, but with a distinct personality that showed a (possibly unintentional) dry wit, presumably programmed by Dr. Morbius. He was instructed by Morbius to be helpful to the Earth starship crew; he synthesized and transported to their landing site the lead alloy shielding needed by its crew. While the film’s poster depicts a fierce character abducting a maiden, no such scene was actually in the film; Robby only carried one person, crewman Dr. Ostro when he was mortally wounded by his own actions with the Krell’s “plastic educator.” Robby’s speaking “mouth” was a monochromatic blue light organ, synchronized to his synthetic voice, its band of curved tubes located directly below his transparent conical “face” dome.

Jason was bullied incessantly until, in 1957, he tried to prove to the bullies that he could swim and drowned in Crystal Lake. Jason Voorhees is a fictional character from the Friday the 13th series. He first appeared in Friday the 13th (1980), as the young son of camp cook-turned-murderer,Mrs. Voorhees, in which he was portrayed by Ari Lehman. Created by Victor Miller, with contributions by Ron Kurz, Sean S. Cunningham, and Tom Savini, Jason was not originally intended to carry the series as the main antagonist. The character has subsequently been represented in various other media, including novels, comic books, and a cross-over film with another iconic horror film character, Freddy Krueger. The character has primarily been an antagonist in the films, whether by stalking and killing the characters, or acting as a psychological threat to the lead character, as is the case in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. Since Lehman’s portrayal, the character has been represented by numerous actors and stuntmen, sometimes by more than one at a time; this has caused some controversy as to who should receive credit for the portrayal. Kane Hodder is the best known of the stuntmen to portray Jason Voorhees, having played the character in four consecutive films.

- Martin Riggs (born October 16, 1950)[citation needed] is a fictional police officer and protagonist from the Lethal Weapon franchise. He is played in all four films by Mel Gibson. Riggs joined the United States Army at age 19, eventually becoming a member of Special Forces, receiving specialized training in weaponry and hand-to-hand combat. These skills would later serve him well when he became a police officer. Most of Riggs’ time in special forces was in Vietnam, where he served as an assassin under the CIA‘s “Phoenix Project” directive; while his ability as a trained killer would later plague hisconscience, he thought of it as “…the only thing I was ever really good at.” In 1984, Riggs’ wife of 11 years, Victoria Lynn, dies in a car accident, sending him into a deep depression. Driven to the brink with grief and anger, he regularly puts himself (and anyone else near him) in harm’s way, secretly hoping someone will put him out of his misery, something he has been unable to do himself. This total disregard for his safety gives him an edge over his enemies, turning him into a Lethal Weapon. By the end of the first movie, he has resolved these suicidal thoughts. In the second film, we learn that his wife’s death was actually a murder attempt on Martin himself, gone wrong.

- Keyser Söze is a fictional character in the 1995 film The Usual Suspects, written by Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Bryan Singer. According to Roger “Verbal” Kint, Söze is a crimelord whose ruthlessness and influence have acquired a legendary, even mythical, status among police and criminals. The character was named the No. 48 villain in the American Film Institute‘s “AFI’s 100 Years…100 Heroes and Villains” in June 2003. According to “Verbal” Kint (Kevin Spacey), Söze was once a petty drug dealer beginning his criminal career in his native Turkey. The entity that is Keyser Söze is born when rival Hungarian smugglers invade his house while he is away, rape his wife and hold his children hostage; when Söze arrives, they kill one of the children to show him their resolve, then threaten to kill his wife and remaining children if he does not surrender his business to them. Rather than give in to their demands and to spare his family from having to live with the memory of what has happened, he shoots his own wife and remaining children and all but one of the Hungarians, knowing that the survivor would tell the mafia what has happened. Söze goes after the mob, killing dozens of people including the mobsters’ families, friends and even people who owe them money as well as destroying their homes and businesses. He then goes “underground”, never again doing business in person and remaining invisible even to his henchmen, who almost never know for whom they are working. One of the most famous lines from the movie, spoken by Kint, is: “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” This is a paraphrase of a phrase in a story by Charles Baudelaire, as translated from the original French. Neither McQuarrie nor Singer realized this at the time and they “borrowed it from people who were quoting Baudelaire themselves.” Söze’s ruthlessness is legendary; he is described as having had enemies and disloyal henchmen brutally murdered, along with everyone they hold dear, for the slightest infractions – and as having personally murdered people who have seen and can identify him. Over the years his criminal empire, including the drug trade and the smuggling of weapons and materials flourishes as does his legend; he becomes, as Kint says during his interrogation, “a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night.

Empire magazine ranked Tequila 33rd in their “The 100 Greatest Movie Characters” poll.
